How to Care for Your Braids After Your Appointment

With the right aftercare, your braids can last anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks. Here are a few tips our Indianapolis stylists recommend to keep your style looking fresh:

Protect your hair in the shower by wearing a shower cap to keep your braids dry. Moisture at the roots too soon can cause frizzing and loosen your style faster.
Sleep with a satin bonnet or scarf to reduce friction against your pillowcase overnight. A satin pillowcase works too if you prefer not to wear a bonnet.
Moisturize regularly using a lightweight oil or braid spray with natural ingredients like shea butter, jojoba, or almond oil. Avoid products with mineral oil, which sits on top of the hair rather than absorbing into it.
Give your scalp attention, too. A clean, hydrated scalp helps your braids last longer and keeps your edges healthy between appointments.
